Welcome to the Mpimbwe Conservation and Development Project
Mpimbwe is an administrative division within the new Katavi Region, in western Tanzania. Sandwiched between the Ufipa plateau escarpment and the southern edge of Katavi National Park the area is known for its remoteness even among Tanzanians.
The conservation and development challenges facing this area are substantial. By combining research, conservation and development a group of dedicated people, spearheaded by Professors Monique Borgerhoff Mulder and Tim Caro from UC Davis, USA, are tackling interconnected issues such as the lack of dependable water sources, inadequate educational resources, unsustainable natural resource use and conflict between people and wildlife. This website show cases the different project strands that have involved many sponsors and stakeholders.
